The story of Hull’s 1968 Triple Trawler Tragedy and the Hessle Rd wives campaign to improve safety in the fishing industry. Written and directed by Rupert Creed
“A
cultural highlight. Poignant, bittersweet and moving.”
“Powerful, haunting and mesmerising.”
“Brilliant. Just brilliant. Completely caught the feeling of the time.”

A powerful multi-media production with spoken word, song, image, film and compelling storytelling, Turning the Tide vividly recreates a period when Hull women stepped out of the shadows and moved beyond grief to campaign with passion. Based on interviews with the campaigning women Turning the Tide tells their story in their own words.

Turning the Tide features live music from folk singing duo Hissyfit, whose songs are inspired by the people of Hull and its fishing industry, and acclaimed storyteller Shonaleigh who was the UK’s Deputy National Storytelling Laureate from 2010 until 2012. The show was performed over 5 separate sell-out runs at Hull Truck Theatre between 2014 & 2018
